You now have Custody of You…Christian Responses to Marriage and Divorce
One primary reason for writing this book is to share my personal study of what the Bible says about divorce. Another principal reason is to shed some light on the power and pressures of divorce in our time and what the Christian can do about them. The author of Ecclesiastes wrote, “There is a time for everything under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 3). Once you understand what that means and place it in the larger context of God’s will, you can feel safe and secure and carry on, however steep and rugged your journey may become. Divorce is an overpowering presence in our lives. If you can focus on the life you have been given as a gift from God, you can catch hold of yourself, anchor yourself to the pillars of faith, hunker down as best you can and keep on keeping on. To do this, you need to take charge of you.
There you have it, the whole point and purpose of this book in a nutshell: you now have custody of you. But you always do: in marriage, single, never married or married again; you always must take custody of you!
