When Your Life Includes A Wheelchair

According to the latest figures, one in every five Americans will experience a form of disability at some point in their life. It may be the loss of sight or smell, or the malfunction of a major organ. But the most common and complex form of disability is lack of mobility.

Each year millions of Americans lose the ability to walk. For some, it is the result of an accident. For others, like me, it’s because of an illness, in my case Multiple Sclerosis. Either way, there is no denying that losing the use of one’s extremities profoundly affects every aspect of life. This little book is designed to help provide a mini roadmap to some of the issues that wheelchair users (and the people who love them) need to know in order to experience a less restrictive and more meaningful life. While my story may not be typical, I welcome the opportunity to share insights, challenges, and discoveries that I wish I had known when I first became wheelchair dependent.
